What are Padfolios?

We tried to find the definition, but it isn’t in any of the online dictionaries.

Does anyone know the history of the term “Padfolio”?

Our best guess is the use of the term in the promotional products industry. We first saw it as an alternate term to describe promotional portfolio writing pad holders. We were unable to find any other use of the word. Searches show a ton of companies selling them which doesn’t give us much information.
It is amazing how a coined word used in advertising can become a common every day word. People are using it in searches too. Last month 1079 people searched for padfolios as compared to 29884 searches for portfolios on Yahoo.
It would be fun to know the origin of the term.
