Corporate awards and plaques is one way to reward employees for a job well done. It can be part of a culture shift where the focus is on rewarding all the time in various ways, a general approach of appreciation and reward, and it will have a definite, measurable impact on the work performance of your employees.
Simple guidelines and principles can make a huge difference in the organizational approach to rewarding performance. Success should be focused on, rather than failure. Tangible rewards are always appreciated, provided that they suit the individual and his/her needs. Monetary incentives are often governed by company policy and taxation implications, but time is a valuable commodity. Time off for additional hours worked and flexible working hours are regarded as very motivating. Any rewards or bonus scheme should be transparent, and employees should know the parameters of the performance required to be awarded.
Personalize any corporate awards or certificates. Photographs and personal messages pointing to exact elements of the achievement all assist in making a certificate something to treasure. Peer input in award schemes enhances the value of the award, especially in an environment where teamwork is of the essence. High quality awards adds some spice to the reward.
Study opportunities, and indeed any kind of learning opportunity can be an incentive. Career development opportunities can also be used, as can opportunities to accept more responsibility than is the norm. Bursaries to improve qualifications of high performing staff members can be a very motivating incentive.
Do not forget about social tools that can be used, such as team celebrations, picnics and dress-up or dress-down days. Bring humor back to the workplace with theme dressing, silly sock or hat days, etc. People feel more motivated in a positive environment.
Management availability is also seen as a motivating factor. It was found that in an environment where the management team is willing and able to discuss issues and rumors, formally or informally, employees tend to feel more appreciated and involved. A hand-written, personal note from a supervisor or manager could mean the world to staff members.
Remember the magic word! A simple thank you and please goes a long way to fostering a tolerant, positive environment in which excellent performance is encouraged.
Motivating employees does not have to cost a fortune. Fostering an open, appreciative environment and using a little bit of creativity and goodwill ensure that the workforce stays positive and motivated. Rewarding performance leads to better performance.
